about

This is a complete special episode of The Listening Room comprising a live-to-air broadcast with works from a number of artists whose work appeared regularly on the program.

Here's a transcript of Andrew McLennan's introduction:
Tonight a very special edition of the programme coming to you live from the Eugene Goosens Hall, the ABC's Ultimo Studios in Sydney,
It's an event we're calling "An Earful", presented in association with Sydney's Centre for Research and Development of the Contemporary Arts, the Performance Space.
Performances include a telephonic journey which has already begun, a woman on a harp, a man with an ironing board and even a couple of sound sculptures buzzing away in the foyer in the hall as we speak.
And there are several works on tape, including 'Tap' by Emil Goh from his ongoing series 'Conversations'.
Tap gives voice to computer codes the embodiment in the human voice of the coded signals that mark out the transactions of everyday life.
Then lie back and join us on a journey, a journey by telephone, a composition for five telephones, sampler tape and callers and various recorded message services. The programme, devised by Sophia Lerner, performed by the Wireless Telephone Ensemble, 'A Journey By Telephone'.

An Earful was a co-production between the Performance Space, Sydney, and The Listening Room.
A cast of thousands to thank for the Performance Space...
Jonathan Parsons, the publicist and Harrod Wynn Jones looked after the front of house.
Clinton Jones provided the muscle when it was needed. David Swan and his staff at the ABC's Information Technology Communications Group got the phones working. Building manager Blair Footes and engineer Andrew Luck generously allowed artists to climb all over the place.
Rosemary Swift scared up an audience and the security staff survived the strange noises in the foyer. Staging and lighting in the Eugene Goosens Hall by Steve Warren.
Technical production by Ron Minogue, Colin Preston and Yossi Gabay.
Technical director was Philip Ulman.
